Seychelles, Aldabra Atoll - Giant Tortoise

The Aldabra Giant Tortoise is from the islands of the Aldabra Atoll in the Seychelles. This tortoise is a protected species and only about 100000 of them remain in the wild in the islands of the Aldabra Atoll.

I personally saw this species up close in Mahé when I visited the Seychelles in 2000 and was absolutely amazed by its size, in particular, the relatively long neck of this tortoise.

Observing the graceful movement of this giant literally left me in awe of this wonder of the animal kingdom. I was extremely glad to learn that this is now a protected species and the existing population is allowed to live in their natural environment in the islands of the Aladabra Atoll free from the interferences and predation of humans!
