Japan, Yokohama - Skylight

Image
I arrived in Yokohama on 10 August 2023 and found myself in the midst of the Pokemon World Championship 2023 happening in the city.  After checking in to the hotel, I had a quick shower, changed into a fresh set of clothing and left the room to do my customary walking tour of the city, without the aid of maps or any pre-planning.  Less than ten minutes into my walk, I chanced upon this sight which I captured as a digital memento using my mobile phone. Another photo moment of my travels. Skylight over the marina waterfront, Yokohama, Kanagawa Prefecture, Japan (2023) Whenever I could find any spare time during my travels, I enjoyed going on unguided and unplanned walking tours of the areas where I had booked my accommodation. The memories of travel experiences that happened serendipitously usually lingered longer than those that were planned.

Vietnam, Phú Mỹ - Quay Cranes Up-close

Unless one works in a port or have a long telephoto lens, taking closeups photographs of Quay Cranes are not always possible. Not that there are anything very interesting about the mechanics of these industrial cranes. Neither are these gigantic machines usually considered as photogenic subjects. But taken at the right angles and perspectives, they do make for interesting photographs that one do not usually encounter. Here, I tried to be artistic (yes, I tried) when I took this photograph of a couple of Quay Cranes at Phú Mỹ from the top deck of the cruise ship that I was on before we set sail from the port. The lightning from the cranes and also from the ship somehow lit up the arms of these cranes in a manner that captivated me. Using my mobile phone, I snapped this photograph. For me, this was one of those interesting photo moments in my travels.  Travel allow me to see things, including everyday objects, in a different way. This is why I love travelling. Singapore, Singapore Strait - Commercial Shipping

Image
Mobile phones with good quality cameras are now an essential part of everyday life, travel included. Gone are the days when one has to bring along a chunky conventional camera when travelling so as not to miss those opportunistic photo moments that one is bound to encounter. Whilst on a recent cruise trip as I was sighted-seeing from the balcony of my cabin located at the back of the ship on Deck 13, I took this photograph. As the ship pulled out of Singapore's Marina Bay Cruise Centre and travelled along the Singapore Strait heading for the Strait of Malacca, I decided that this view of commercial shipping will be a good digital memento of my trip. This photo reminded me of the busy shipping that contributes to global trade and keeps the economies of many countries humming along nicely. Commercial Shipping, Singapore Strait, Singapore (2022)
