Indonesia, Bali - Nusa Dua at Low Tide

The beach at Nusa Dua is amazing. At low tide, one can literally walk far out into the sea where the water only ever reaches to the ankles of an adult.

Combing the beach at low tide to observe the small animals that come out to forage for food and engage in their own little things to do is a joy. I do not advocate removing or even touching any of the wildlife at the beach because many of these animals are extremely fragile and may not survive physical human encounters. My advice is always to just observe and take photographs; nothing more than that.

At low tide, the small animals are extremely vulnerable. I have seen parents using nets to help their children catch the baby fishes and small crustaceans. The captured animals were typically placed in small containers and left to perish. This is a definite no. Teach your kids to observe the animals in their natural habitats. Teach them to protect these precious wildlife. Catching these animals with nets and placing them in containers is not educational. Please stop teaching kids to capture wildlife unnecessarily. Instead, show them the beauty of nature and inculcate in them the need to protect and conserve the natural environments and all the flora and fauna residing there.
