Cruise Diary - Port Visit: Kagoshima
Kagoshima is located in the south of Kyushu, one of Japan's main island. The port at Kagoshima where cruise ships typically docked at, is located along the coast of Kinko Bay, facing the East China Sea.
The port is conveniently situated close to shopping areas. It is also just next to Sakurajima, an active volcano that is also the symbol of Kagoshima. The port's official name is Marine Port Kagoshima.
Walking along and around the port area yields scenic views of the surrounding areas including Mount Sakurajima.

Public Transport
The port is around 7km from Kagoshima-chuo Station. There also several Bus Stations around the port area.
Around Kagoshima Port
A short walk from the port towards Tenmonkan Park is a cluster of shops and eateries, including a Don Quijote store where snacks and souvenirs of all kinds can be found. There are also several nice bookstores selling books and stationeries such as fountain pens etc.
Tips and Advices
There are clusters of shops and eateries around the port area albeit with a little walk. From the port, Sakurajima can also be clearly seen.
There are regular ferry services between Kagoshima Port and Sakurajima Port.
