Travel Bits: June 2026
Next trip.......
I had just returned from a short weekend getaway to Hong Kong, my second trip to the city this year. While there will likely to be at least a couple more trips to Hong Kong again this year, I am thinking of what other cities I can and should visit next. Because these will mainly be short 4-5 days getaways including over the weekends, there can be no faraway destinations relative to my home city, Singapore. This effectively rules out any sojourns to Europe or North America. Candidates for such short getaway trips thus include only regional destinations such as Bali, Bangkok, Kuala Lumpur, Taipei and Shenzhen, all of which I had previously visited multiple times over the years. Manila, which I have never before visited, is a prime consideration. But any visit to Manila will have to be towards the end of the year because the paranoid traveller in me want to avoid the typhoon season that usually occurs in the middle of the year and we are currently in the middle of the year.
I will not be travelling in June due to work commitments that require me to be present in-person in office. July is the most likely month for short trips for me. Probably an extension to a work trip by a few days should count, thus allowing me to save on air tickets which is a major price item for any trips. The good from all these is that there are so many possibilities for short getaways. The bad is, I am constrained by time and travel budget. The result? Nothing is confirmed, it is all only thoughts and mental planning for now.
While I continue to think and plan, there are always the past trips as well as trips that I had taken so far this year to reminisce about. As I scrolled through my trip photos on my mobile phone, I realised that I had taken lots of photos on food I had eaten during my trips. Why food? Because food has always been and will continue to be a key experience of my trips. 🍲😋
